PUBLIC NOTICE - REAPPOINTMENT OF UNITED STATES MAGISTRATE JUDGES

The current terms of the following United States Magistrate Judges are due to expire on the dates indicated: 

Judge Rebecca Rutherford, Dallas 
January 25, 2026 

Judge Jeffrey L. Cureton, Fort Worth 
May 2, 2026 

Judge Renée Harris Toliver, Dallas 
June 24, 2026 

The duties of the magistrate judge position include the following: 
(1) conduct preliminary proceedings in criminal cases; 
(2) preside over misdemeanor cases; 
(3) conduct various civil pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on referral of the district judges; and 
(4) preside over all aspects, including trial, of civil cases upon consent of the litigants. 

The United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of each magistrate judge to a new eight-year term. Written comments from members of the bar and the public are invited as to whether the incumbent magistrate judges should be recommended by the panel for reappointment by the court. Comments should be sent to:
