LUBBOCK, TX – On Thursday, August 1, 2024, Amy Burch was sworn in by United States District Judge James Wesley Hendrix to serve as a United States Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court, Northern District of Texas, Lubbock division.
Judge Burch received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, with honors, from Texas Tech University in 1998 and a Juris Doctor, with honors, from the Texas Tech School of Law in 2001. Following her graduation from law school, Judge Burch worked as an associate with Gardere Wynne Sewell’s Dallas office from 2001 to 2004, as a Special Assistant United States Attorney with the Texas Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Unit in Lubbock from 2004 to 2008, and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Lubbock Division of the Northern District of Texas from 2008 until her appointment to the bench.
Judge Burch is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Lubbock Area Bar Association and is admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
A magistrate judge merit selection panel appointed by the court was engaged to review each application and conduct interviews with applicants deemed most qualified for the position. The merit selection panel was comprised of Zach Brady, Esq., Chair, Mr. Ben Alexander, Sarah Gunter, Esq., Scott Hogan, Esq., William Keffer, Esq., Molly Manning, Esq., and Ms. Teresa Verdugo.
