Professor Richard Marcus

Prof. Richard Marcus holds the Horace O. Coil Chair in Litigation at UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Since 1996, he has served as Associate Reporter to the U.S. Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Civil Rules. In that capacity, he has helped draft many sets of amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, including the discovery amendments of 2000, the class-action amendments of 2003, the E-Discovery amendments of 2006, the expert discovery amendments of 2011, the Rule 45 subpoena amendments of 2013, and the package of discovery amendments that went into effect on Dec. 1, 2015. He is presently Reporter to the Advisory Committee's Rule 23 Subcommittee, which is considering possible further amendments to the class-action rule.
