The United States District Court
for the Northern District of Texas regularly seeks students interested
in participating in its Internship Program. The program provides
students interested in the legal field an opportunity to observe
first hand the workings of the federal judicial system. Internships
are available in Dallas, Fort Worth, Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock,
San Angelo, and Wichita Falls.
The internship combines eight hours
per week of educational and work experience in the District Clerk's
Office. Although these positions are unpaid, arrange with
your school to receive credit for this experience. Activities
include:
- Meeting with representatives
of the Federal Public Defender's Office, U.S. Attorney's Office,
and U.S. Probation.
- Attending arraignment and sentencing
hearings.
- Observing Court proceedings
including jury selection, trial, and sentencing.
- Attending a Naturalization ceremony.
- Touring the Court facilities,
including holding cells and courtrooms.
Students of Law, Public Policy,
Public Administration, Political Science, Political Economy, and
Government are strongly encouraged to apply. The Clerk's Office
offers a professional environment and a strong introduction to the
judicial process.
